Some Things to Consider When Choosing a Puppy

Fisrt, make sure you have done your research on the breed you are considering purchasing. All dogs are fantastic creatures but their needs and temperments change from breed to breed, so know what you are getting into. On our website we have provided links and articles about the breed we raise to help you with this process.

Next, understand that you are purchasing a baby animal and this baby animal will go through many stages before it reaches maturity. Some of these stages are unpleasant. Be sure that you have the time and energy at this point in your life to endure some of these stages. We have included articles and links on our website to help you better prepare for these stages. And remeber, with proper  training, they will outgrow them.

Because puppies are babies, their looks will change with time, such as the shade of their hair, and size of their body. Tiny cute puppies grow up to be beautiful larger dogs. Make sure that your lifestyle and facilities can accomodate the puppie's growth. It is always a good idea to ask the size of the parents if size is going to be an issue. The wieght and height of the parent does not always determine the mature size of the offspring but it is a good ballpark figure.

Their temperament, however, is less likely to change; given a healthy lifestyle and enviroment. In my experience, puppies will show certain traits such as, affection, shyness, aggression, boldness, etc., at as young as three weeks old. Because we make it a point to know our puppies well, we will do our best to point you toward a puppy that is best for you.

Puppies also require a certain amount of veterinary care in the first few months of their lives. No matter who you purchase a puppy from make sure that you get all current health care info from the breeder. This can be as simple as a list on a paper of how many shots, what kind of shots and what kind of worming and when it has been administered to your puppy. Whether you intend to administer shots and wormings yourself, or through a vet, this infromation is important.

Puppies must go through a series of shots before they are fully protected from contagious disease. Plan to protect your puppy and make sure you understand the procedure for doing so by the breeder or your vet. It is a good idea to get a wellness check from a vet within two to three days of purchasing a puppy. This will ensure that you have purchased  a healthy animal and will make it easier for you to recieve refund or exchange from the breeder if there is a problem with the dog.  Most breeders with have a health guarantee on their puppies. Make sure that you know the duration of that guarantee and get your puppy checked out before the guarantee runs out.

Last but surely not least, plan to have a fantastic time with your new puppy and be sure to spoil him just a little bit.
